SAN BERNARDINO, CALIF.- Despite a strong offensive showing, Sonoma State fell to Cal State San Bernardino 62-76. The Seawolves battled throughout, powered by the dynamic duo of Alysa Lopez and Jayme Blackard, while freshman contributions continued to impress.
Lopez led all scorers with 24 points, aggressively attacking the defense and converting all 10 of her free throw attempts. Blackard provided a strong scoring punch as well, tallying 21 points while knocking down 8-of-16 shots from the field. Lopez has now reached 10 straight double digit scoring outings including four games of 20 or more points.
Making her first career start, freshman Genesis Hopkins put together a solid all-around performance, contributing 4 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 steals while making an impact on both ends of the floor. Fellow freshman Sydney Peterson continued to shine, adding 5 points and 3 rebounds in limited minutes. Both young players have begun to shine in the final games of the season and their upside on the court becomes clearer and clearer with each game.
Sonoma State dominated the offensive glass, securing 15 offensive rebounds, which created second-chance opportunities and kept them in the fight against a tough San Bernardino squad. Eryn Gardner was a force on the glass with 10 total rebounds. She posted a game high four offensive rebounds to keep possessions alive for the Seawolves.
The Seawolves will look to regroup as they prepare for their next matchup on February 17th against the San Marcos Cougars.
