ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – Sonoma State punched their ticket to the postseason in emphatic fashion, securing a playoff-clinching 73-56 victory over Cal State Monterey Bay at The Wolves' Den. The Seawolves showcased a dominant defensive performance while key players stepped up in crucial moments.
True freshman Genesis Hopkins continued her breakout campaign, delivering an all-around effort with 10 points, four blocks, and three steals. Her defensive presence in the paint helped set the tone early for Sonoma State.
The duo of Sheriene Arikat and Alysa Lopez provided an offensive spark, combining for 26 points. Lopez led the charge with 15 points and five rebounds, while Arikat contributed 11 points and two steals, making big plays on both ends of the floor.
Sonoma State's defense was relentless, holding the Otters to just 31% shooting from the field and forcing 24 turnovers. The Seawolves turned their defensive stops into scoring opportunities, capitalizing on fast-break chances and second-chance points.
With the victory, Sonoma State improved to 14-12 on the season and 12-8 in CCAA play, locking up a spot in the conference tournament. Their tenacious defensive effort and balanced scoring attack will make them a tough opponent heading into the postseason.
