Sonoma State Softball Splits Second Day Series Against Cal State East Bay

HAYWARD, CALIF.- Sonoma State Softball kicked off their CCAA portion of the schedule with a local road trip to Cal State East Bay.  Day two of the series would see the Seawolves and Warriors split the series with each team taking home a win.

Game One: SSU 3, CSEB 1

The first game of the day was highlighted by a late rally offensively and another great pitching performance by veteran Charlie Johnson. Johnson would go the distance facing 27 batters across all seven innings. Johnson forced 15 ground outs while only walking a single batter. The lone Pioneers run would only score on a throwing error giving the Seawolves ace another incredibly efficient and clean game. With a no hitter already under her belt, Johnson has shown no signs of slowing down.

The Seawolves offense would come alive in the sixth inning with Amari Houston getting things going via a bunt to get on base. To wrap up the sixth inning back to back singles by Iris Bejarano and Carissa Marquez drove in a pair of runs to give the Seawolves they wouldn't relinquish. The duo of Bejarano and Marquez would finish the day with a pair of hits each in game one.

Game Two: SSU 2, CSEB 3

Game two saw the Seawolves battle in a close loss behind six hits from the offense and the return of pitcher Nichole Sarra. Sarra has officially made her 2025 debut and already looked poised for a strong season. Sarra got through 4.2 innings only giving up four hits and walking a single batter. She forced 13 groundouts or flyouts and did a great job in her debut.

Offensively, Marquez had another solid showing with another hit and RBI to her resume. Taylor Rapp, Sophia Newcomb, Oliva Gabriel, Kaiya Dickens and Lauren Mirtoni all got in the boxscore with hits recorded as well. Rapp had another strong showing at the plate not only recording a hit but drawing a walk as well.

The Seawolves will now look to open up their first CCAA series at home next weekend with Cal Poly Humboldt making the trip to Rohnert Park!
