Paul Holland joined the Sonoma State men's basketball coaching staff in 2022. Holland was a part of the 2022-23 season for the Seawolves as a second assistant and has since been promoted to the lead assistant under head coach Rich Shayewitz. Holland got his coaching career started as a graduate assistant at James Madison University in 2016. After finishing his masters, he made his way west and started as the assistant coach at Tempe High School. Holland would spend three years in Arizona and then make his way to Windsor High School in Sonoma county as the head men's basketball coach in 2020 before being discovered by Shayewitz.
Holland's basketball journey started in 2009 where he attended Southern Maine Community College. From there, he would transfer to Colby Swayer College and play on the men's basketball team for two seasons. Holland averaged over seven points and shot 40% from three during the 2012-13 season. He would finish his career with 55 games played and recorded over 700 minutes for the Chargers.
Originally from England, Holland would return home and start his professional career with Leeds Carnegie belonging to the NBL1. After a change of ownership and name, he would play the next season with Leeds Force in the British Basketball League, the top flight of British basketball. Holland and Leeds Force would have a successful 2013-14 season and be crowned BBL D1 National Champions. Holland would then return to the States to further his academics and start his coaching career.
