Assistant softball coach Bry Castro joins the Sonoma State softball program upon the 2023 season. It all started in 2015 for Castro when she began her collegiate softball career at McNeese State where she played one season. Castro had a standout year as she was named to the All-Southland Conference First Team after finishing conference play with a .300 plus batting average and 10 RBI’s. In 2016, Castro would make the leap to SEC powerhouse Ole Miss and see action in 41 games. Castro would prove to be a threat on the base paths as a late-game pinch runner where she stole 8 bagas on the year, good for 6th most on the team.
In 2017, Castro would be a part of Rebels history as Ole Miss went on an improbable run in the SEC Tournament, going 4-0 and defeated LSU in the championship game to become the lowest seed ever to win the SEC Tournament. Castro would pinch run in the 2nd inning and help get the Rebels on the board first as she scored off an RBI double. She concluded her 2017 campaign with 47 games played, scoring 12 runs and stealing 4 bases. Castro capped her collegiate career off as a 3-time SEC Honor Roll recipient and also earned the Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar award in 2017.
Castro would go on to graduate from Ole Miss with a BS in Sport Recreation Administration and a minor in Education. Castro would go on to continue her education and work as a graduate assistant at Belhaven University for the Blazers softball program. There, Castro specialized in work with the team’s pitching staff and mental strength training as she worked towards a Masters in Business Administration.
In 2021, the Southern California native would return home and find a new spot with the Division I Toreros of University of San Diego. At USD, Castro specialized with slap hitters and infielders as she went on to be a volunteer assistant for the next two seasons before accepting the position here at SSU. Castro brings a diverse background as a former student-athlete and quality coaching experience at all levels of college softball and we are excited to have her join the Seawolf family.
