Associate head women's basketball coach Lindsey Foster returns to Sonoma State for her third year as a part of the women's basketball program. Foster came into the program here at SSU as the lead assistant for the women but has worked her way to associate head coach as head coach Rich Shayewitz took over as Director of Basketball Operations and now operates as the head coach for both the men's and women's program.
Foster was a collegiate women's basketball player herself as she attended school and played for Notre Dame de Namur for two years before transferring to the University of La Verne for her final two years of competition. There, Foster would graduate with a B.A. in Communications with a concentration in Public Relations.
At University of La Verne, Foster was named to the First Team All-SCIAC and was also a team captain for her program during the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons. Foster was also known as a complete athlete as she was also a part of the La Verne Track & Field team as a long jumper and triple jumper. As a coach, Foster was a volunteer assistant for Gonzaga University's women's program from 2015-2017. Foster got to shadow and contribute to some of the historic seasons for the Bulldogs as she got to be a part of the WCC Conference Championship team in 2017. The Bulldogs would finish the year with a 26-7 record and make an appearance in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
After leaving the women's program at Gonzaga, Foster continued her coaching journey as she joined Division II St. Martins a part of the GNAC conference. Foster was the women's assistant coach where she got to mentor the 2017-18 GNAC Freshman of the Year in Saniah Simpson-Patu. During the 2018-19 season at St. Martins, Foster also had the opportunity to coach yet another GNAC Freshman of the Year in Calire Dingus.
After spending some time in the Division II realm, Foster would make the move to the California Collegiate Athletics Association in what is known as the most successful Division II conference in the country. She would join head coach Rich Shayewitz as the lead assistant for the women's basketball team here at Sonoma State upon the 2019-20 season. In her first season, the Seawolves would make the conference tournament where Foster got to coach some of the program's best players and most recent thousand point scorers in Kylie Kiech and CCAA Defensive Player of the Year, Ugochi Anudokem.
"I chose Sonoma State because I felt that the university, coaching staff, and community aligned with my values in what I was looking for in a coaching position" (AC, Foster).
"I love the details of the game and I enjoy the skill development side. I also love that it's an IQ driven game. For how physical the sport can be, IQ can get you a long way and we are committed to creating better and smarter players here at SSU" (AC, Foster).
