Tina De La Rosa (Woodring) was a dominating, gutsy pitcher for the Sonoma State softball team as well as a member of the SSU volleyball squads that reached the Division III nationals in 1982 and 1983. As a softball player, De La Rosa was more than a dependable pitcher - one you could count on to go out every other game. She was the classic definition of a workhorse. De La Rosa pitched all but 2/3 of an inning during the 1983 season, a year when the entire schedule was played in the month of April due to rain. Over two years, the first abbreviated because of a shoulder injury, De La Rosa won 18 games and is second all-time at SSU in both career earned run average (1.07) and strikeouts (109). In 1983, she led her team to the Division III national tournament in Iowa an was named to both the All-WestRegion squad and to the regional all-tournament team. At the national tournament she pitched every inning, including a 15-inning marathon she ended up losing on an unearned run.
Because of her shoulder injury, De La Rosa could neither speak nor serve overhand, but instead, made an important contribution as a defensive specialist for the Cossack volleyball teams of 1983 and 1983. Her skills helped lead the squads reach the Division III national tournament twice, including a third place finish in 1983.
