A top performer while at Sonoma State, Ed was a two-time Far West Conference wrestling champion in his 126 pound weight division.  In 1973 he was named SSU Athlete of the Year after he helped his squad reach the NCAA championships.  In 1974, he was voted outstanding wrestler in the conference as he once again led his team deep into the post seson.

Ed graduated from Sonoma State in 1974 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Management, but his athletic success did not end there.  In 1976 he was named American-Austrian Tang Soo Do Champion and he was the winner of the Terrible Two bicycle race in both 1975 and 1976.

In 1993, he took over a porly organized wrestling program with only six students at Montgomery High School and transformed the program into one of the most respected squads in the area.  During his six-year tenure, he helped lead his team to three North Bay League Championships and was voted Most Outstanding Wrestling Coach in 1997.
