With the accomplishments that Shannon Hartnett has made in athletics and beyond, it is only fitting that one more honor be tacked on to her amazing resume.
A versatile track and field athlete for Sonoma State, Shannon holds the school record in the shot put, and she is second in the javelin and discus. She owns third place in the heptathlon, fourth in the triple and long jumps, and is eighth in the 100 meter hurdle and high jump categories. Shannon is also a member of the 4x400 relay team that holds the school record.
Since graduating from Sonoma State in 1989, Shannon has made waves around the globe. She has competed year round at the Scottish Games, winning six world championships. From 1990-1995 she was named U.S. Scottish Athlete of the Year and she holds numerous bodybuilding championships, including being ranked among the top ten in the US Bodybuilders and Western USA Bodybuilding championships. Shannon also was a starter on the national champion fast pitch fotball team.
At the turn of the millenium, she took up bobsledding and in 2001, with her partner Bonnie Warner, she won the national championship in the two-woman bobsled. That same year, Shannon earned a spot as an alternate on the U.S. National Bobsled team.
Shannon is not only a great athlete, but a superior role model as well. She holds degrees in marine biology, exercise physiology, and a masters in sports psychology. She is very active as an advocate in animal rights and donates a great amount of time and energy to caring of abandoned pets and other animals. She also donates her time in homeless shelters ad food kitchens. She currently owns a very successful gym exclusively for women called Body Central in Santa Rosa. A dedicated sportswoman Shannon Hartnett, simply put, is an inspiring, generous and versy strong woman.
