Toby Cinque came to Sonoma State after being an all-league performer at Cuesta Junior College, but after a junior year that saw him appear in just six games, no one could have have imagined the kind of breakout year he would have as a senior.
in 1993, Toby won the conference overall batting title with a .380 average and set the then single season records for home runs (13) and runs batted in (52). He topped the league in home runs that year as well finishing second in RBI, fourth in runs scored and fifth in doubles. He was named first team All-West Region and first team All-NCAC at the end of the year.
The summer before the '93 season, Toby married his wife, Keri, and while going to school and playing baseball, operated his own successful window cleaning business. He graduated with a B.A. in Physical Education in 1995 and earned his teaching credential from SSU in 1997.
After moving back to the central coast, Toby got a job teaching Physical Education at Cambria Grammar School and was head varsity girls soccer and softball coach at Coast Union High School. At the start of the 1998-99 school year, he was also hired as the Athletic Director at Coast Union.
