Keith Rodriguez shot a 72 on Tuesday to finish 13th overall
SANTA ROSA, Calif-  The Chico State men’s golf team got a little revenge on Sonoma State on Tuesday afternoon by winning the SSU Invitational.  You see, it was just a week ago that the Seawolves beat Chico at their own tournament, the InterWest Chico Classic.  Tuesday’s victory was the second consecutive SSU Invite title for the ninth-ranked Wildcats.

Kevin Horan took individual medalist honors with a 66-70-70—206, holding off Ian Gilley of Rollins College (69-70-68—207) and Jarin Todd of Sonoma State (69-67-72—208).  The Wildcats packed two more golfers in the top five as Lucas Delgado (70-71-70—211) finished fourth and Brandon Harkins (68-71-73—212) finished fifth.

Chico State edged second-ranked Sonoma State by 14 strokes after shooting a four-under 284 in round three.  The Wildcats turned in the best round of the tournament in Round One on Monday, a 15-under 273.

Sonoma State closed out the tournament with a solid 289 to finish at 852.  Todd, Keith Rodriguez, and Ryan Carter all carded even-par 72s on Tuesday.

The best round of the day went to J.T. Cockerill of Cal State Stanislaus, who posted a 67 to pull in to sixth-place tie.

Despite not getting the win, the Seawolves keep alive their streak of champion or runner-up finishes.  SSU has not finished lower than second at a tournament this year.

Newcomer Tyler Schmuckle had a nice tournament, finishing sixth at 69-70-74--213.

The Seawolves return to action next week when they try to defend their title at the Dennis Rose Intercollegiate in Hawaii.
