Men's Basketball Tabbed Ninth In CCAA Coaches Poll

Ben Washington is the Seawolves' leading returning scorer
WALNUT CREEK, Calif-  The 2008-09 CCAA Men's Basketball Pre-Season poll was released on Thursday and the Sonoma State men's basketball team was picked to finish where they ended the '07-'08 season, ninth. 

The Seawolves have brought in one of their best recruiting classes in years and are excited to get the season started.  Returners Ben Washington (11.0 ppg) and Keith Garner (7.5) expect to share the load witha the talented crop of newcomers.

Cal State San Bernardino was the coaches' pick to take home the 2008-09 CCAA title.  The Coyotes are coming off a 22-8 season and have won or shared the the league crown in seven of the last nine years.  CSUSB received nine of the eleven 'first place' votes with Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State L.A. garnering single votes. 

The Seawolves will open up their season with an exhibition game against the University of Arizona on November 12th in Tucson.  The regular season gets underway on November 21st and 22nd when the Seawolves host Northwest Nazarene, Menlo, and San Francisco State for the Ron Logsdon Basketball Classic.

ROHNERT PARK, Calif-  One night removed from a tough loss, the Sonoma State men's basketball team turned in one of their finest performances of the season in an 80-68 win over San Francisco State on Saturday night in Rohnert Park.  The Seawolves shot over 70% in the second half to cruise to a victory and earn their first CCAA win of the season.  Sonoma is now 5-6, 1-3 CCAA.  The Gators fall for the second straight night and see their record tumble to 8-3, 2-2 CCAA.

ROHNERT PARK, Calif-  The Seawolves had a nice effort against the CCAA's first place team, but they couldn't finish the job as Cal State Monterey Bay emerged from Seawolf Gym with a 65-61 win over Sonoma State on Friday night.  The Seawolves drop to 4-6, 0-3 CCAA on the season while the Otters remain in a tie for the league lead at 9-1, 3-0 CCAA.

ARCATA, Calif-  Chad Chambers had a breakout game with 18 points and 12 rebounds as Sonoma State rolled past Simpson University 75-45 on Saturday night at the DeBeni Holiday Classic in Arcata.  The win snaps a four-game losing streak as the Seawolves go to 4-5 on the year.

ARCATA, Calif-  Under one minute into the second half, Sonoma State held a 34-31 lead and things were looking good.  From that point on, however, the Seawolves were outscored 48-28 as Western Oregon pulled away with a 79-62 win on Friday night at the DeBeni Holiday Classic in Arcata.  The loss extends the Seawolves' current slide to four in a row as they drop to 3-5 on the year.  The Wolves go to 4-2.

ARCATA, Calif- Persistent snowfall and icy travel conditions have forced Lewis-Clark State College to cancel its plans to participate in the DeBeni Holiday Classic men's basketball tournament hosted by Humboldt State this weekend. Simpson University, however, has stepped up to take Lewis-Clark's spot in the field, meaning the Seawolves will take on the Redhawks on Saturday.

RENO, Nevada-  Curtis Harrison led the Seawolves with nine points and five rebounds on Tuesday night in a 95-39 loss to the University of Nevada at Lawlor Events Center in Reno.  It was the third straight loss for the Seawolves as they drop to 3-4 on the season.  The Wolfpack see their record even out at 4-4.

ROHNERT PARK, Calif-  Sonoma State had a chance to tie in the waning seconds, but a Ben Washington three-pointer with four ticks left rimmed out as UC San Diego held on for a 57-52 win on Saturday night at RIMAC Arena in La Jolla.  The loss is the second straight for the Seawolves as they drop to 3-3, 0-2 CCAA.  The Tritons go to 3-3, 2-0 CCAA.
