NORMAN, Okla- Sonoma State golfer
Patrick Bauer became the just the second freshman in school history to earn All-America status when it was announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) that he was included on the Honorable Mention All-America list. Bauer joins teammate Jarin Todd, who's selection to the First Team was announced last week.
Bauer joins Melissa Costa (Track & Field, 1996) as the only Sonoma State student-athletes to earn All-America status as a freshman. He becomes the third SSU golfer to earn All-American accolades, joining Todd (2007, 2008) and Kyle Hopkins (2006, 2007).
A rookie from Colfax, Bauer came on strong down the stretch, becoming one of the best golfers on the squad once the postseason hit. Bauer finished 11th at the CCAA Championships, 5th at the NCAA West Regionals, and 45th at the NCAA Championships. His best finish of the year came at the Buzzini/Stanislaus Invitational, where he finished second overall.
For the season, Bauer had a stroke average of 73.22, the second-best mark on the team (behind Jarin Todd's 70.39). He had seven rounds under par and turned in his best tournament score (a 213) at the West Regional.
