Women's Golf Takes Second At WWU Invitational

Chelsa Helget-Robinson led the Seawolves to a second place finish.
BELLINGHAM, Wash- Sophomore Chelsa Helget-Robinson followed up a 77 stroke performance yesterday with a 79 and finished tied for seventh but freshman Spencer Heller shot a one-over-par 74, nine strokes better than yesterday, to help Sonoma State finish second at the 16th Annual Western Washington University Women's Golf Invitational at the Bellingham Golf and Country Club.

Heller was the third-leading golfer in Tuesday's final round behind Cal State Monterey Bay's Cicilia Chudivan (71) and Grand Canyon's Brittany Anderson (73) but finished ninth overall in the two-day tournament, shooting a 83-74--157. Helget-Robinson led the Seawolves with a 77-79--156 and a co-seventh place finish.

Senior Danielle Buckman finished 12th with a 79-80--159 and senior Brittany Carrera followed up with a 81-80--161 performance and a 17th place finish. Sophomore Tess Russell shot an 83 on Tuesday, after an 82 stroke showing on Monday, ending the 36 holes with a 165 in the tournament.

Sonoma State shot six strokes better on Tuesday (313), helping the Seawolves to a second place finish with 632 strokes, just six swings behind tournament champion Western Washington, who shot 313 on both days (626). Cal State Monterey Bay finished a close third, just three strokes behind Sonoma State (635). Seattle University (637), Grand Canyon (639), British Columbia (639), Chico State (667), Saint Martin's (678) and Hawaii-Hilo (694) rounded out the field.

The Seawolves will host the Sonoma State Invitational on Monday and Tuesday at the Santa Rosa Golf and Country Club.
