SANTA ROSA, Calif- Western Washington shot a 297 on Tuesday afternoon, a full 20 strokes better than any other team in the field, to cruise to the team title at the Sonoma State Women's Golf Invitational at Santa Rosa Golf & Country Club. The Vikings also boasted the top two finishers in a dominating performance. Sonoma State finished fifth as a team.
Western Washington entered Tuesday seven strokes behind first place Cal State Monterey Bay at 318. Their 297 vaulted them to a fourteen-stroke victory over the Otters and was the best team round of the tournament by 14 strokes.
Aiding the Vikings' effort was Claire Rachor, who will bring home individual medalist honors after posting 79-70--149. She was just one shot ahead of teammate Katie Sharpe at 77-73--150.
Cicilia Chudivan paced second-place Cal State Monterey Bay with a third-place finish at 75-77--152.
Brittany Carrera of Sonoma State, Monday's leader, dropped to fourth at 74-80--154.
Carrera was one of two Seawolves in the top ten as she was joined by freshman
Spencer Heller at 77-80--157. Unfortunately, the Seawolves were unable to improve upon their score of 321 on Monday, shooting a nearly identical 322 to place fifth, 28 strokes behind Western Washington.
Chelsa Helget-Robinson was the third Sonoma golfer, in 28th at 87-80--167. She was followed by
Tess Russell (87-82--169, 31st) and
Tara Mortimeyer (83-86--169).
Also competing for the Seawolves, but not factoring in the team scoring were
Danielle Buckman (80-78--158, 11th) and
KelliAnn Masterson (88-90--178, 39th).
