SEASIDE, Calif- Sonoma State finished seven strokes better than Monday's opening round with the help of
Spencer Heller, who shot a tournament-best 76 on Tuesday in windy conditions, as the Seawolves came in tied for fourth at the Golf Mart Lady Otter Invitational, hosted by Cal State Monterey Bay at the Bayonet Golf Course.
Heller's 76 tied Western Washington's Claire Rachor for the best score of the day and teammate
Brittany Carrera shot a 77. Both Heller and Carrera had a 157 during the two-day tournament, helping them to a co-fifth place finish.
Danielle Buckman (81-81--162),
Tara Mortimeyer (83-87--170) and
Tess Russell (87-84--171) helped the Seawolves to a 643 stroke showing, just one stroke behind third place Western Washington (323-319--642).
Cal Baptist held onto its lead after day one to take home the overall tournament title, despite a 323 shot day after a 307 score on Monday for the overall 630. Grand Canyon jumped from fourth to second, finishing with 320-316--636. Host Cal State Monterey Bay also had a rough day (313-330--643) tying Sonoma State for the fourth place spot.
Sonoma State wrapped up its fall season after competing in four tournaments. The Seawolves highest finish was second at the Western Washington Invitational in Bellingham, Wash. Sonoma State will return to competiton on Mar. 1 at the St. Edward's Invitational at Austin, Texas.
