Larkin Scores 21, Seawolves Pull Out OT Victory

CHICO, Calif- Junior guard Oly Larkin scored a game-high 21 points, including nine of Sonoma State's 13 points in overtime, to give the Seawolves a 62-54 victory over Notre Dame de Namur in the 37th annual Carl's Jr. Coslet Classic at Chico State University on Saturday evening. The Seawolves move to 2-0 on the season and the Argonauts remain winless (0-4).

Notre Dame de Namur jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead early in the opening half and held Sonoma State to just 29 percent from the floor while hitting 12-of-28 (42.9 percent). However, the Seawolves stayed around and never trailed by more than seven at any given time, taking a 27-26 deficit into halftime.

In the second half, freshman Nadia Williams tied the game a 32-32 with 14:19 remaining in the second half but a seven-point run by Notre Dame de Namur put the Argonauts up 39-32. The Seawolves fought their way back into the contest and took their first lead of the game at 49-47 with two minutes to play on a three pointer by senior Jennifer Russo.

A layin by NDNU's Jennifer Dreessen knotted the game at 49. A change of possession gave the ball back to Sonoma State with 1:07 left but two missed free throws and four missed shots by both teams sent the game into overtime.

That's where Larkin took over, scoring nine of her 21 points in the extra frame, helping the Seawolves to outscore the Argos 13-5 in overtime and the eventual 62-54 score at the final buzzer. Larkin hit 7-of-12 from the floor, including three three-pointers. Williams came off the bench to grab a game-high 11 rebounds, Russo scored nine points and had seven boards and sophomore Christy Shreve had nine boards, eight points and four assists.

Larkin and Shreve were named to the All-Tournament team.

Notre Dame de Namur had three players in double-figures -- C'ani Kealoha (12), Katie Zasly (11) and Laura Zasly (11).

Sonoma State will make its 2009 home debut on Tuesday when the Seawolves open up California Collegiate Athletic Association play with Humboldt State on Tuesday. Tip off at The Wolves' Den is set for 5:30 p.m.
