ROHNERT PARK, Calif- After a slow start, Sonoma State went on a run to take the lead late in the first half, but Notre Dame de Namur drained a three-pointer just before halftime to jump start a 24-5 run to put the game out of reach as the Argonauts defeated the Seawolves 56-39 on Monday night in non-conference women's basketball action at The Wolves' Den.
The loss drops the Seawolves to 4-3 on the season. The Argonauts avenged an earlier season overtime loss to Sonoma State with Monday's victory while improving to 3-6 overall.
Notre Dame de Namur jumped out to a 10-1 lead to start the game and Sonoma State missed its first 12 shots from the field before senior
Jennifer Russo hit a three-pointer at the 10:33 mark of the opening half to put the Seawolves within four points at 10-6. The Seawolves continued their 18-5 run over the next eight minutes giving Sonoma State a narrow four point advantage at 19-15. However, the Argonauts would score five unanswered points, including the aforemention three ball by Jane Ryabulkhina just before the halftime buzzer.
The momentum shifted to the visitors side as NDNU continued on its torrid run which eventually put the game out of reach. The Argonauts held the hosts to just 26.4 percent from the field (14-53) and just 2-of-14 from behind the arc. Notre Dame de Namur outrebounded Sonoma State, 43-38, and forced 15 turnovers with seven steals. Jennifer Dreessen led all scorers with 14 points and two players -- Ryabulkhina and Laura Zasly -- added 12 apiece. Zasly also brought down nine rebounds.

The Seawolves will hit the road this weekend to participate in the CCAA/GNAC Challenge, hosted by Western Washington University in Bellingham, Wash. Sonoma State will take on nationally-ranked Seattle Pacific on Sunday (Dec. 20) at 1 p.m. then will go to battle with Western Washington on Monday (Dec. 21) at 3 p.m.
