University Reports Baseball Violation To NCAA
ROHNERT PARK, Calif- Director of Athletics Bill Fusco announced today that the Sonoma State University’s Baseball program will vacate twenty-six victories from their 2009 season record due to a student-athlete who competed on the squad, yet failed to meet the NCAA minimum enrollment requirements for the spring 2009 semester. The violation was discovered after the season had concluded and was self-reported by university officials immediately to the NCAA. The NCAA has classified the violation as “secondary” and has concluded their review of this case. All corrective actions implemented by the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics have been approved by the NCAA.
The student-athlete was a non-scholarship, non-recruited squad member who only competed this past spring for the Seawolves.
The system-generated reports utilized to check every student-athlete’s enrollment status on a weekly basis were found to have been excluding specific enrollment scenarios. The reports have since been updated and new procedures have also been implemented to prevent a similar issue from reoccurring.
The student-athlete participated in thirty-six of the Seawolves’ fifty-one games; twenty-six of those games resulted in a win for SSU.
