ROHNERT PARK, Calif- Sonoma State sophomore midfielder Cory Taufer and senior goalkeeper Brook Johnson were named to the National Soccer Coaches Association (NSCAA) All-West Region Second Team after helping the Seawolves to their third consecutive appearance in the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Tournament. Junior Ryan Hall and sophomores Trevor Hurst and Cam Vickers earned Third Team all-region honors.

Taufer earns his first all-region accolade after an impressive season in the Sonoma midfield. The Clovis native notched two assists this season, but his presence was felt more on defense, where he helped anchor a unit that allowed just 22 goals in 23 games. 

Johnson, who earned Daktronics All-West Region First Team honors this season and added All-America Honorable Mention accolades a season ago, led the California Collegiate Athletic Association in saves with 101 and was among the conference leaders with a 0.90 goals against average. Johnson recorded eight shutouts, adding to his career record total of 32. He earned first team All-CCAA honors earlier this season.

Hurst, a midfielder from nearby Santa Rosa, ranked third on the team in scoring with four goals and five assists. His 56 shots attempted were the most on the team and he had one game-winning goal, against rival Chico State on Oct. 23.

Lake Tapps, Washington native Cam Vickers earns his first all-region selection this season. The team's second leading scorer with three goals and nine assists (15 points), Vickers has already recorded 19 assists in two seasons, putting him eighth on the all-time list.

Hall, another member of the defensive unit, earns his first all-region honor. A sophomore from Trabuco Canyon, Hall had four goals and an assist this season, though, like Taufer, his main contributions came on defense where his play helped Sonoma State record eight shutouts in 2009.

Sonoma State, who won the CCAA North Division for the sixth consecutive season with a 10-3-3 record, finished 14-5-4 overall but fell in the opening round of the NCAA tournament to Cal State Dominguez Hills.
