ROHNERT PARK, Calif- Former Sonoma State pitcher Alberto Rolon has signed a professional contract with the Lake Erie Crushers of the independent Frontier League. Rolon will join his former Sonoma State teammate Brent Lysander, who signed with the Crushers prior to the 2009 season.
Rolon, a native of Yuba City, pitched two seasons for the Seawolves, 2006 and 2009. His finest season came in 2006 when he led the staff with a 6-3 record and 3.88 ERA. After enduring two injury-plagued years that kept him off the mound, Rolon returned in 2009 to go 0-1 with a 7.11 ERA in nine appearances.
Rolon's best outing of this season came in the NCAA West Regional, when he held eventual regional champion UC San Diego to three runs in five and two-thirds innings.
The Crushers are a member of the 12-team Frontier League. Broken up into a West and East Division, the independent league has franchises throughout the midwest.
Lysander and Rolon are not the only former Seawolves competing in the Frontier League. Former Sonoma leadoff hitter, Zack Pace (2005-06), is playing for the league's Midwest Sliders.
Rolon becomes the second player from the 2009 squad to sign a professional contract. Ace starting pitcher Gary Moran was drafted by the San Francisco Giants and will start his professional career at Salem-Keizer, in the same stadium the Seawolves played in during the regional tournament.
