ROHNERT PARK, Calif- Former Sonoma State star Tommy Everidge has been called up to the Major Leagues by the Oakland Athletics. The Sonoma native will be in uniform for the A's on Tuesday when they take on the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.
UPDATE: Tommy Everidge is in the starting lineup for tonight's game between the Athletics and the Red Sox.
Everidge will become the third player in Sonoma State history to appear in the majors, following Marshall Brant (1980-83) and Daniel Barone (2007).
Everidge started the 2009 season in Double-A and batted .306 in 55 games for the Midland Rockhounds before a promotion to the Triple-A Sacramento River Cats. Since joining the River Cats, Everidge has been even more impressive, batting .382 with nine home runs in 43 games.
A three-year starter for Sonoma State from 2002 to 2004, Everidge's name is all over the school's record books. He ranks second all-time in home runs (32), hits (213), doubles (43), runs batted in (153), and runs scored (158).
During a 2004 season that saw him earn Second Team All-American honors, Everidge batted .357 with 19 home runs and 69 RBIs. After the season, Everidge was drafted by the Athletics in the tenth round of the Major League First Year Player Draft.
Everidge's call up to the "show" became necessary when the Athletics placed first baseman Daric Barton on the disabled list.
Following three games in Boston, the Athletics return home to host the Toronto Blue Jays on July 31st.
