LA JOLLA, Calif- Sophomore
Katie Bolce picked right up where she left off last season, leading the Sonoma State Cross Country team in their 2009 season opener at the UC San Diego Opener in La Jolla. Bolce finished sixth overall in a field of 57 runners, completing the 2.5-mile course in 16:18.
As a team, the Seawolves accumulated 82 points, good for third behind a pair of very strong programs in UC San Diego and Point Loma Nazarene.
Following Bolce, the Seawolves' next finisher was freshman
Rachel Borg, who had an impressive collegiate debut, finishing 12th overall at 16:39.
Sophomore
Sablle Scheppmann (17:28) was 27th,
Elizabeth Bloom (17:53) was 35th, and Carly McCreedy (17:55) was 36th to round out the scoring contingent.
Meaghan O'Day,
Sammy Thomas, and
Noelle Erosa also competed for Sonoma State.
UC San Diego's Bre Schofield ran away from the field to take the individual victory, crossing the line in 15:12. Her time was nearly 40 seconds better than the second finisher, Elena Inouye of UCSD.
Next up for the Seawolves is the CSUMB Invitational, September 5th in Seaside.
