B's Lead the Way For Sonoma At Hornet Jamboree

Katie Bolce was the Seawolves' top finisher in Saturday's race.
SACRAMENTO, Calif-  Led by sophomore Katie Bolce and freshman Rachel Borg, the Sonoma State cross country team ran to a sixth place finish at the Hornet Jamboree on Saturday in Sacramento.  The Seawolves were the top NCAA Division II school and they defeated two NCAA Division I schools in the process.

With 179 points, the Seawolves finished just 25 points behind the University of San Francisco and five points ahead of Saint Mary's College.  Conference rival Cal State Stanislaus, which bested Sonoma by just two points last weekend in Monterey, finished eighth, seven points back of the Seawolves.

Katie Bolce was the first Sonoma State finisher, traversing the 5-kilometer course in 18:42, good enough for 24th place overall.  Borg was nine spots behind Bolce at 19:07.

Following the squad's front runners, Elizabeth Bloom and Sablle Scheppmann finished 55th and 56th in 19:53 and 19:54, respectively.  The Seawolves' final scorer, Carly McCready, placed 63rd in 20:17.

The Seawolves will look to continue their improvement next week at the Sundodger Invitational in Seattle.
