SEASIDE, Calif- Freshman
Rachel Borg and sophomore
Katie Bolce finished second and third, respectively, helping the Sonoma State women's cross country team to a third place finish Saturday at the CSU Monterey Bay Invitational in Seaside.
Borg came in 13 seconds behind race winner Denali Foldager (Cal State Stanislaus) at 17:34 and Bolce, who finished sixth last week at the UC San Diego Opener, came in just behind Borg at 17:40 -- good for third place in the field of 47 participants.
"Rachel and Katie did a great job of working together," said head coach Mark James, "and it really paid off with both of them finishing in the top three."
Meaghan O'Day finished 13th (18:42) and
Elizabeth Bloom came in at 17th (18:48).
Sablle Scheppman (19:03),
Carly McCready (19:17),
Samantha Thomas (19:19),
Noelle Erosa (19:50),
Debra Daubenspeck (19:58), and
Samara Johnson (36:35) all finished for the Seawolves on Saturday.
San Francisco State took home the team title, as Cal State Stanislaus finished second. Cal State East Bay, Cal State Monterey Bay and Notre Dame de Namur rounded out the field of six teams.
"Well, it's kind of painful losing to Stanislaus by just two points, but I think we proved that we're able to mix it up with the teams in our conference," said James after the race.
Sonoma State will travel to Sacramento next weekend for the Hornet Jamboree.
