SANTA CLARA, Calif- The Broncos of Santa Clara University showed why they are ranked 71st in Division I, taking care of business over Sonoma State, the 41st ranked team in Division II. The loss snapped a two-match win streak, that included an upset of Hawai'i-Hilo last week, and the Seawolves fell to 4-2 this season. The Broncos improved to 6-2.
The Broncos cruised through the doubles event, with the exception at the No. 1 doubles match between
Connor Olson and
Taylor Bianco, who battled with Jay Wong and Brian Brogan. Wong and Brogan outlasted Olson and Bianco, though, taking the 8-5 decision.
Stewart Hutton played a hard-fought match at the No. 5 singles spot, but Grant Fleming won 6-3, 6-4.
Sonoma State will return home for a pair of exhibition matchups with Sierra CC (Thursday) and Foothill CC (Friday) before taking to the road again to pair up with Saint Mary's in Moraga on Mar. 3.
