Baseball Drops Non-Conference Game At Nevada

Bookmark and Share
RENO, Nev-  Taking a break from the conference schedule, the Sonoma State baseball team dropped a 10-3 decision to the Nevada Wolfpack on Tuesday afternoon at Peccole Park in Reno.  The loss is the fifth in a row for the Seawolves as they drop to 9-14 on the season.

Playing their only NCAA Division I opponent of the season, the Seawolves got out to an early 1-0 lead in the first when Max Shupe drove in his team-high 22nd run of the year on a ground out to the shortstop.

The Wolfpack would make that Sonoma lead short-lived in the bottom of the inning with four runs of their own.  They were aided by an error, four hit batsmen, and a leadoff home run by Kevin Rodland.

The Seawolves would stay close in the middle innings, thanks to a solid relief outing by Mark Lincoln.  Coming into the game with the bottom of the first, Lincoln allowed just one hit and struck out four in four scoreless innings.

The Wolfpack led 7-3 in the seventh, with Sonoma State in striking distance, before a three-run shot by Rodland, his second of the game, put the contest out of reach.

Joey Van Cleave was tagged with the loss after a very tough outing in which he hit three batters and allowed four runs without recording an out.  Kyle Jones, batting in the leadoff position, had two hits including a double, the Seawolves' only extra base hit of the game.

Rodland went 2-for-5 with two home runs and four RBIs to pace the Wolfpack.  Tyler Rogstad was credited with the win after throwing two innings.

The Seawolves will jump back into league play this weekend when they host Cal State Monterey Bay at Seawolf Diamond.  The series starts with a single game at 2:00 pm on Friday.

Box Score:  Nevada 10, Sonoma State 3
