SAN RAFAEL, Calif- Behind individual medalist honors from sophomore
Jeremy Wendelken, the Sonoma State men's golf team rolled to a comfortable victory on Tuesday at the Dominican Invitational at Peacock Gap Golf Club in San Rafael. Wendelken shot 69-66-73--208 for the tournament to take top honors by five strokes over teammate
Alex Marry.
In a small event with just three teams and 15 golfers, the Seawolves dominated the field, taking five of the top nine spots.
Wendelken, who entered the tournament with a previous best collegiate round of 71, recorded a 208 for the event. It was the lowest tournament in school history for a golfer not named
Jarin Todd or Kyle Hopkins. In addition, Wendelken's 66 in round two was the best by a Sonoma State golfer this season.
Five strokes behind Wendelken was freshman
Alex Marry, who at 70-68-75--213, delivered the best tournament of his short career as well.
Patrick Bauer (72-71-74--217) finished fourth,
Cole Pickavance (75-70-75--220) finished fifth, and
Tyler Schmuckle (73-77-77--227) was ninth.
The Seawolves return to action next week at the Southern California Intercollegiate in Mission Viejo.
