AUSTIN, Texas- Thanks to a 77-shot performance by
Chelsa Helget-Robinson on day two of the St. Edwards Invitational in Austin, Texas, the Sonoma State women's golf team finished in fourth place out of 17 teams at Grey Rock Golf Course. Helget-Robinson finished sixth with a 81-77--158 in the field of 88 participants.
Spencer Heller, who finished day one in eighth place with a 79, fell a couple of spots to 13th with an 82 on Tuesday, ending the 36-hole tournament with a 161.
Brittany Carrera (83-81--164),
Tess Russell (90-81--171) and
Tara Mortimeyer (88-84--172) all improved their scores on the second day to help Sonoma State to a team score of 652.
Tarleton State claimed the team victory, shooting a 620 -- 16 strokes in front of Western Texas CC, the second place finisher. Tarleton State's Katie Mundy shot a one-under 70 in round two, taking the individual crown with a total score of 148. Host St. Edwards University came in third with a 648.
Sonoma State will travel to Vallejo next Monday and Tuesday for the Cal State East Bay Invitational at Hiddenbrooke Golf Course.
