Women's Golf Finishes Strong At Otter Invite

The Seawolves finished second among NCAA schools at the event.
SEASIDE, Calif-  Led by a final round 72 by freshman Spencer Heller, the Sonoma State women's golf team finished second among NCAA schools at the Golf Mart Lady Otter Invitational on Tuesday at Black Horse Golf Course.  Heller finished third among NCAA golfers in a field of 75 after shooting 79-72--151 for the tournament.

The Seawolves bettered their team score from Monday (308) by three strokes, catching the early leader Cal Baptist and finishing 13 strokes behind Cal State Monterey Bay, the winner among NCAA schools.  The Seawolves finished at 619, the Otters were at 606 and overall winner, British Columbia, was at 600.

For Heller, a freshman from Turlock, it was the third time in the team's last four tournaments that she has held the low score.  Her second round 72 is also tied for the second-lowest round by a Sonoma State golfer this year.

Following Heller in 7th place was sophomore Chelsa Helget, who shot 73-80--153.  Brittany Carrera (80-75--155) finished 9th, Tara Mortimeyer (79-81--160) was 29th, and Tess Russell (80-82--162) was 27th.

The Seawolves return to action next week in Arizona at the Grand Canyon University Spring Invitational.
