AMARILLO, Texas- For the first time in school history, the Sonoma State women's golf team has qualified for the NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championships following a third place finish in the Super Region 4 Golf Championship at Amarillo, Texas. The Seawolves were led by second place finisher
Spencer Heller, who shot a 74-80-74--228 in the 54-hole event at Tascosa Country Club.
Heller finished in a tie for second place with Tarleton State's Jacqueline Lau. Darcy Lake of Cal State Monterey Bay earned individual medalist honors, carding a 74-71-79--224.
Tess Russell's 78-84-76--238 gave her a 13th place finish and
Brittany Carrera (82-79-80--241),
Chelsa Helget-Robinson (81-83-86--250) and
Tara Mortimeyer (81-82-87--250) paced the Seawolves to a third place finish.
Tarleton State took home the team title, firing a 922 -- 30 strokes ahead of second place Cal State Monterey Bay (952). Host West Texas A&M just barely missed the cut as the Buffaloes finished two strokes behind the Seawolves at 956. St. Edward's finished the tournament in fifth place at 960.
The top three teams -- Tarleton State, Cal State Monterey Bay and Sonoma State -- advances to the national championship tournament that will be held at Longbow Golf Course on May 12-15 in Mesa, Ariz.
