ROHNERT PARK, Calif- Sonoma State outfielder
Tillman Pugh, who sat out the 2010 season as a redshirt, has been selected in the 15th round of the Major League Baseball Draft by the New York Mets. Pugh was the 452nd overall pick and the second NCAA Division II west region player to be drafted, behind teammate
Scott Alexander.
Pugh was ineligible to play in 2010 due to complications in transferring units from his junior college to Sonoma State University.
An Oakland native, Pugh transferred to Sonoma State from GateWay Community College and was previously drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the 16th round of last season's draft. He also attended Arizona State.
Pugh becomes the second SSU player to be drafted in 2010 and the 14th since 2004.
He is the first to be selected by the New York Mets since Travis Babin was taken in the 16th round in 2008. Overall, he is the fourth player in school history to be taken by the Mets, following Babin, Bryan Rogers (1988) and Wayne Bauers (1974). Former Seawolf Tim Worthington was also signed as a free agent by the Mets in 2003.
