ROHNERT PARK, Calif-  Junior southpaw Scott Alexander, an All-CCAA Honorable Mention pick in 2010, has been selected in the sixth round of the Major League Baseball Draft by the Kansas City Royals.  As the 179th overall pick in the draft, Alexander becomes Sonoma State's highest draftee since Brandon Burgess in 2004.

A product of Cardinal Newman High School in Santa Rosa, Alexander was 3-6 with a 4.50 ERA in his only season with the Seawolves.  His 70 strikeouts were a team-high and his opponent batting average of .209 was the fourth-best in school history.

Alexander is the first NCAA Division II player from the west region to be selected.

He is also the first Sonoma State player to be drafted by Kansas City since Donald Quigley was taken in the 32nd round of the 1996 draft.

Sonoma State has now had a player selected in each of the last four drafts.  Since head coach John Goelz came to Sonoma State in 1986, 32 players have been drafted by Major League teams- including 13 in the last seven seasons.

Alexander becomes Sonoma State's highest drafted player since Burgess was taken with the 176th pick by Arizona in '04.  The highest selection in school history was Roger Jensen, the 45th (2nd Round) pick in the 1983 draft (Chicago White Sox).
