SAN FRANCISCO, Calif- The 2010 Sonoma State cross country team made its debut on Saturday in foggy Golden Gate Park at the University of San Francisco Invitational. Sophomore
Rachel Borg led a tight pack of Seawolves with a 41st place finish overall, leading Sonoma to a seventh place finish in the team standings.
Borg finished the 5k course in 20:03, starting a trend in the race that saw five Seawolves staggered over the next nine spots.
Following Borg in 41st was junior
Katie Bolce (43rd, 20:09), junior
Ashley Holtze (45th, 20:14), junior
Sablle Scheppmann (47th, 20:16), and freshman
Hayley Sa (49th, 20:25). The top five Seawolves all finished within 22 seconds of each other.
In all, 16 student-athletes from Sonoma State would compete in the event, giving head coach Mark James a chance to review his squad.
Cal won the team race by two points over Kentucky in an impressive filed made up primarily of NCAA Division I teams. The only NCAA Division II squad other than Sonoma State was the Academy of Art, which finished in ninth, 71 points behind Sonoma.
Up next for the Seawolves is the Hornet Jamboree, next Saturday in Sacramento.
