Women's Cross Country Finishes 11th At CCAA Championships

The Seawolves finished 11th out of 11 teams at the 2013 CCAA Cross Country Championships in Chico.

CHICO, Calif. --
Savannah Silacci traversed the six-kilometer course at Hooker Oak Park in Chico in 24:42 and placed 69th as the Sonoma State women's cross country team finished 11th at the annual California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Cross Country Championships, hosted by Chico State.  The host Wildcats captured their sixth straight conference title with their top two runners, Ayla Granados (22:10.9) and Sara Mikesell (22:14.4), placing first and second, respectively.

Silacci was the top runner for the Seawolves for the third consecutive race; she was followed by Debra Daubenspeck (25:12.2) in 79th, Maria Hurtado (25:19.6) in 83rd, Veronica Kays (25:35.5) in 86th, Abby Utic (26:18.9) in 90th, Brittany Smith (26:35.0) in 91st, Raelynn Brett (26:35.0) in 92nd, Jessica Stip (27:29.0) in 96th, Christina Robinson (27:32.9) in 97th and Marissa Yang (28:06.4) in 100th out of 100 runners.

In the team competition, Chico State netted 29 points to run away with the title, 48 points ahead of runner-up Cal State Stanislaus with 77 points.  Cal Poly Pomona (118), UC San Diego (123), Cal State L.A. (156), Humboldt State (159), San Francisco State (166), Cal State San Bernardino (183), Cal State East Bay (191), and Cal State Monterey Bay (210) all finished ahead of Sonoma State (339) in the 11-team event.

In the men's 8K race, Chico State captured its 12th straight CCAA title, scoring a perfect 15 points with placing six of its seven runners in the top six.  The Wildcats' Aaron Thomas (24:50.6) edged teammate Alfonso Cisneros (24:50.8) by two-tenths of a second to earn top individual honors.  Cal Poly Pomona (59) finished second, followed by UC San Diego (82), San Francisco State (126), Humboldt State (132), Cal State Monterey Bay (173), Cal State Stanislaus (190) and Cal State East Bay (253) to round out the team competition in the eight-team event.

Sonoma State will compete in one last meet this season -- the NCAA Division II West Regional Championships, which is set for Nov. 9 in Spokane, Wash.
