Complete 2012-13 All-CCAA Men's Basketball Team
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- Seniors
Will Olsem and
Patrick Scott were included amongst the top ten players in the league on Friday as both were named to the All-California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) First Team. Both four-year performers for the Seawolves, Olsem and Scott combined to average over 30 points per game, making them one of the top 1-2 punches in the entire conference. It marked the second consecutive year that the Seawolves have placed two on the first team.
Olsem and Scott's performances highlighted an exciting year that saw each score their 1,000th career point. It marked the first time in school history that two SSU student-athletes have hit the milestone in the same season. Their play helped the Seawolves qualify for the CCAA Championship Tournament for the third straight year.
Olsem, one of the nation's best three-point shooters, continued to display his sharpshooting skills in 2012-13. One year after setting a school record with 83 three-pointers, Olsem will have a shot to break his mark with four tonight. He is the school's all-time leader with 287 three-pointers -- a mark that puts him 73 beyond his closest competitor.
Olsem's senior season was highlighted by back-to-back 40 point-games, a feat never accomplished by an SSU men's basketball player. He enters Tuesday night's game with 1,225 points and he can move past Erik Johnson into third on the all-time list with just three on Tuesday evening. The Sacramento, Calif. native was a Second Team All-CCAA pick last year.
Scott was just as threatening, if not more, for the Seawolves in 2012-13. He leads the conference in total points scored with a career-high 416 this season and even led the CCAA in scoring average for the majority of the season with 16.0 points per contest. In fact, Scott has drained the second-most three-pointers in the conference (59), making him and Olsem one of the most threatening outside-shooting duo in the country.
The native of Grass Valley, Calif., is currently seventh on Sonoma State's all-time scoring list with 1,133 career points (an average of 10.5 in 108 career games played). He torched the nets for a career-high 28 points on a pair of occasions this season, both in separate weeks that solidified himself two CCAA Player of the Week honors in a three-week span back in November. This is Scott's first-career All-CCAA selection.
The Seawolves are in action on Tuesday night, taking on 5th-ranked Cal Poly Pomona, the top seed in the CCAA Championship Tournament. The Seawolves and Broncos will tip off at 7:00 pm with the winner advancing to the semifinals this weekend in Ontario.
