Sonoma Ends Regular Season With Saturday Sweep Of Warriors

TURLOCK, Calif. -- The Sonoma State softball team will head into next weekend's California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Softball Championships on a winning note, sweeping host Cal State Stanislaus with 9-0 (in five innings) and 9-3 (in nine innings) victories on Saturday, the final day of the regular season, in Turlock.

The Seawolves (38-17, 24-11 CCAA) have clinched the No. 3 seed in the CCAA tournament, which begins on Friday at Arnaiz Stadium in Stockton, and, unofficially, will open against No. 2 Humboldt State.

The official announcement of seedings and game times will not be released by the conference office until Sunday when all conference games have been completed -- Cal State San Bernardino and UC San Diego were forced to push back their four-game series this weekend, due to rain.  The Coyotes (27-23, 19-14 CCAA) need two wins on Sunday to capture the fourth and final spot in the CCAA tournament, otherwise, Chico State (28-18, 21-15 CCAA) will qualify as the fourth seed.

Amanda Llerena earned both victories in the pitching circle on Saturday, going the distance in the mercy rule-shortened opener before appearing in relief for the final three and a thirds innings in the nightcap.  In the eight-plus innings, she allowed no runs on just two hits, striking out seven to improve to 23-10 this season.

Keeley Ray went 3 for 4 with two RBI and two runs scored in game one and Taylor Batey went 3 for 5 with two RBI and a run scored in game two.  Ray also recorded a hit in the second game, extending her CCAA-record of most consecutive games reaching base to 55.
