Rohnert Park, CA -The Sonoma State University men's soccer program landed a notable recruit by signing incoming freshman Johnnie Dodge, from Ewa Beach, HI. After back-to-back 10 win seasons in 2015 and 2016 and an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2016, the Seawolves are looking to build a strong recruiting class with young rising talent. Despite losing 3 starting players in the back line, the Seawolves retains much of their midfield and front three and a young product in Johnnie Dodge will have plenty of talent around him to grow and mature and make a direct impact in the midfield.
MF - Johnnie Dodge
Ewa Beach, Hawaii
Johnnie had the pleasure of being named the 2019-20 Hawai'i Gatorade Player of the Year which certainly put his name on the map for several college coaches. "Winning such a prestigious award like this means a lot to me because of the hard work and time put into the sport that we all love" says Dodge. "I definitely would not have won this award without the help of my teammates and coaches back in Hawai'i. They really pushed me every day to stay dedicated to the game and to always strive for more". Johnnie takes pride in his craft and his family and coaches help keep him grounded as he is always striving to improve and get better each and every day.
Johnnie has quite the resume that helped him earn Gatorade POTY honors. Johnnie attended Punahou School in Hawai'i where he was ILH First Team 2 years in a row. He was also named to the All-Tournament team in the HHSA in back-to-back seasons as well. Dodge was also a Scoring live First Team All-State winner and a Honolulu Star-Advertiser First Team All-State honoree. The Gatorade Player of the Year award not only recognizes athletic talent but also success in the classroom and off the field. Johnnie maintained a 3.66 GPA during his high school years and volunteered in numerous community projects to help give back in a more meaningful way.
Seawolves head coach, Marcus Ziemer and his staff are incredibly excited to add Dodge to their program and cannot wait to see the player he develops into during his collegiate career. "I saw Johnnie play and liked him immediately and invited him in for an official visit. He trained with our team and fit in and didn't seem like a high school senior competing against college players. Johnnie is a great kid and not only is he a solid defender, but he is great in ball possession and gets forward into the attack very well. We are excited to have him in our program. This recognition is well deserved" (Zeimer).
"The level of play in the CCAA was one of the biggest reasons why I chose Sonoma State. Coach Zeimer really made me feel comfortable right off the bat and the soccer program at Sonoma is very competitive and strong. I can't wait for the upcoming season and to hopefully get a chance to win some games" (Dodge).
Congrats on everything you have already accomplished in your career Johnnie and we cannot wait to see you suit up in navy and colombia blue in the upcoming season. Welcome to #NomaNation!!
