The founder of the women's athletic program at Sonoma State, Dr. Trussell came to SSU in 1965 as an Assistant Professor of Human Sciences and Physical Education. She began recruiting women from physical education classes to begin the volleyball, basketball and softball teams using the same 12 women to field all three squads. Dr. Trussell organized the area's first women's athletic conference, the NCWIAC, and served as its first president.
