ROHNERT PARK, Calif- Michelle Fletcher drove home 15 kills and Sarah Illingworth added ten more to lead Sonoma State to a 3-0 (30-22, 30-26, 30-17) win over Cal State Monterey Bay on Friday night at Seawolf Gym in Rohnert Park. The win evens out the Seawolves' record at 8-8, 5-7 CCAA. The Otters drop to 8-12, 2-9 CCAA.
In game one, the teams went back and forth before the Seawolves closed with a 9-2 run to take a 30-22 win. Game two saw CSUMB battle back from an early deficit with an 8-1 lead to take a 19-18 advantage. However, SSU was quick to answer with a run of their own (10-2) to pull away. Game three was all Sonoma State as they sunk the Otters in a 13-3 hole and never let them recover.
Fletcher took game-high honors with 15 kills and a splendid .406 hitting percentage. Lillian Harms was solid on defense, contributing 27 digs. Three other Seawolves (Katie LeBeau, Rosie Manton, and Lindsay Brown) also had double-digit dig totals. Lindsay Brown led the way with 22 assists.
Brittany Etchings led the Otters with 13 kills and 20 digs. Nicki Sanderson supported the offense with 31 assists and libero Katie Bos posted 19 digs.
The Seawolves are back in action next weekend when they hit the road to take on Cal State Bakersfield and Cal State L.A.
