Men's Basketball Downed By Humboldt State

J.T. Tipton recorded his third double-double of the year

ROHNERT PARK, Calif-  Despite a spirited second half and a double-double from J.T. Tipton, the Sonoma State men's basketball team fell to Humboldt State 72-57 on Wednesday evening at Seawolf Gym in Rohnert Park.  With the win, Humboldt State, the pre-season conference favorites, improve to 6-2, 1-2 CCAA.  The defending CCAA champion Seawolves, drop to 1-6, 0-3 CCAA.

From the get-go, it was all Humboldt State.  More specifically, it was all Kevin Johnson as the senior posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds in the first half.  HSU went into the break up 18 at 38-20, enjoying what would be their largest lead of the game.

Sonoma State came out as a different team in half number two, quickly axing the Lumberjack lead to just nine points.  SSU eventually got it down to eight, but that's as close as they'd get.

Humboldt State outshot the Seawolves 46% to 38%, but SSU edged them on the boards 37-35.  J.T. Tipton took game-high honors with 24 points.  He also grabbed ten rebounds for his third double-double of the year.  He was the lone Seawolf in double digits on Wednesday night.

Kevin Johnson went for 19 points, 12 rebounds, and two blocked shots.  Jeremiah Ward pumped in 17 and Will Sheufelt posted 15 points and five assists.

The Seawolves and Lumberjacks will meet again on December 30th in Arcata.
