ROHNERT PARK, Calif- Chaminade got 19 points and nine assists from tournament MVP Zack Whiting to beat host Sonoma State 71-64 in the finale of the Ron Logsdon Classic on Saturday night in Rohnert Park. The win lifts the Silverswords to 4-4 while the Seawolves drop to 1-5.
Chaminade led the entire first half, pushing the lead to as many as ten in the waning minutes at 30-20. Sonoma State used an 11-2 run to open the half to pull within one in the first five minutes. They took their first lead with 14:17 to go on a J.T. Tipton layup.
Chaminade stormed back to take a nine point lead into the final three minutes. A pair of three-pointers by Barry Weiss and Andrew Kochevar sliced the lead down to four, but that's as good as SSU could do.
Whiting's performance couple with his triple-double on Friday against CSU Monterey Bay, earned him tournament MVP honors. His teammate, Marko Kolaric was also named to the all-tourney team. He finished with 20 points and eight boards.
Andrew Kochevar hit four three-pointers on his way to 16 points for the night. J.T. Tipton was just one rebound short of another double-double, finishing with 14 points and nine rebounds.
Next up for the Seawolves in a home date with Humboldt State on December 20th.
