ROHNERT PARK, Calif- The Sonoma State baseball team has announced the hiring of Tony Arnerich as an assistant coach. A star at Montgomery High School, Arnerich joins the Seawolves after a five-year professional playing career.
Arnerich earned All-League and All-Empire honors as a catcher at Montgomery High School before graduating in 1998. He also participated in the Area Code Games and California North/South All-Star Game.
He spent two years at Santa Rosa JC, including 2000 when he was named All-America, before going on to a stellar playing career at Texas Tech. Following his time with the Red Raiders, Arnerich was signed by the Kansas City Royals. He spent 2001 to 2003 in the Royals organization and then a couple of years with the Florida Marlins organization, reaching Double-A with both teams.
Arnerich is also the head coach of the St. Cloud River Bats of the Northwoods Collegiate Wood Bat League.
