ROHNERT PARK, Calif- Sonoma State head coach Marcus Ziemer got his 200th career win as his Seawolves beat Chico State 1-0 in CCAA men's soccer action Friday afternoon in Rohnert Park. The win extends SSU's win streak to six in a row as they improve to 7-3-0, 6-0-0 CCAA. The Wildcats fall to 3-3-0.
Sonoma State held a commanding 18-4 advantage in shots, but they were unable to break through until the 58th minute. Eric Lafon set up a perfect give-and-go with Nathan Medina before sending a cross in front of the net. Mike Travis was in the right place at the right time as he headed the ball in for the game winner.
Ziemer was impressed by the play of several reserves who had to step into the starting lineup, Doug Carr and Brook Johnson. Carr filled in for defender Scott Preckwinkle and Brook Johnson recorded his first career shutout in relief of starter Clark Rupp.
Said Ziemer, "This was a great win against a very good team. Our defense really stood out today."
The Seawolves will try to keep it rolling on Sunday when they host Cal State Stanislaus. Gametime is set for 12:30 pm.
