Volleyball Speared By No. 13 Tritons

Michelle Fletcher paced the Seawolves with 11 kills

LA JOLLA, Calif-  The 13th-ranked UC San Diego volleyball team swept Sonoma State 30-25, 30-22, 30-23 in CCAA action on Friday night in RIMAC Arena.  With the win, UCSD improves to 12-2, 7-2 CCAA while the Seawolves drop to 6-7, 3-6 CCAA.

Nicole Courtney led UCSD with 14 kills and 10 digs.  Brianne Koche also recorded a double-double, finishing with 10 kills and 12 digs.  Michelle Fletcher had 11 kills to pace SSU.

Game one was close throughout as SSU took a 19-18 lead.  UCSD opened up the first three-point lead of the game at 24-21 on consecutive kills by Courtney and Bailey.  SSU would pull within two points twice before UCSD scored the final three points.

UCSD did not take the lead in game two until Koche recorded a kill to make it 10-9.  After SSU jumped back ahead, 11-10, UCSD went on a small run to make it 20-15.  SSU would close to within three points, several times before th Tritons pulled away.

In game three, the Tritons used a 13-4 run midway thorugh to cruise to a 30-23 win.

Lillian Harms had 20 digs in a supporting role for SSU.

The Seawolves will face Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday in Carson.
