ROHNERT PARK, Calif- Seattle Pacific rolled past Sonoma State 3-0 in the finale of the 2006 Seawolf Classic Soccer Tournament on Monday afternoon in Rohnert Park. The Falcon men finished the tournament with a perfect 2-0 record and improve to 3-1-0 on the year. The Seawolves fall to 1-3-0 after they were shut out for the third time in four games this year.
Sonoma State controlled much of the play early in the game, but it was SPU that broke through first. Colin Rigby put the Falcons on the board in the 27th minute off a fine cross from James Coggan. SPU struck again just five minutes later with a goal from Justin Abel (assist: Michael Morris).
The Seawolves continued to battle, but saw the icing put on the cake in the 60th minute when Coggan made it a 3-0 Falcon lead with an unassisted goal.
The teams were tied at 13 shots apiece, but Sonoma State committed seven more fouls, 20-13. Kellen Roston made four saves for SPU en route to the shutout.
Sonoma State returns to action next Friday when they host Cal State Bakersfield.
