ROHNERT PARK, Calif- Cal State L.A. hit .328 as a team on their way to a 3-0 (30-16, 30-21, 30-27) win over Sonoma State in CCAA volleyball action on Thursday evening in Rohnert Park. The sixteenth-ranked Golden Eagles improve to 6-2, 2-1 CCAA. The Seawolves fall to 4-3, 1-2 CCAA.
The Golden Eagles committed just 11 hitting errors in an efficient offensive performance. Luana Cavalcanti led the way with 13 kills while Tanya White and Airess Padda each had eight kills and just one hitting error.
Lindsay Webb paced the Seawolves with 10 kills. Lillian Harms had 20 digs and Kendall Leatherberry was tops with 16 assists.
The most entertaining game of the match was the third, which featured several impressive runs by both teams. Sonoma State went up 10-7, but saw their lead balloon to 13-7 when Cal State L.A. served out of order. The ensuing confusion ended in the ejection of CSULA's head coach. The lead got as big as 16-10 before the Golden Eagles went on a 6-0 run to tie it. The lead went back and forth before CSULA got the final three points to pull away with a 30-27 win.
Sonoma State returns to action on Saturday when they host Cal State Bakersfield.
