ROHNERT PARK, Calif - Khyra Buchanan scored the lone goal as Sonoma State beat the Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunners 1-0 in the CCAA opener for both schools.
The goal came in the 64th minute when Courtney Oates headed a Lindsay Catton corner kick to Buchanan who was waiting for it in front of the net. It was Buchanan's first goal of the seaon and Oates' first assist. Catton now has two assists.
"We didn't play very well in the first half," said head coach Luke Oberkirch. "But we did what we had to do in the second half to win. That's the mark of a good team."
The goal also handed Cal State Bakersfield (3-1-1, 0-1-0 CCAA) its first loss of the season. Sonoma State improved to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in CCAA.
Sonoma State is back in action Sunday when it plays host to Cal State L.A. at 11:30 am at Seawolf Field.
