ROHNERT PARK, Calif- The Sonoma State women used a suffocating defense to beat Cal State Monterey Bay 67-49 on Thursday night in CCAA basketball action in Rohnert Park. The Seawolves were led by 14 points from
Chelsey Armacost as they improve to 4-7, 3-4 CCAA. The Otters drop to 3-8, 2-4 CCAA.
The Otters hung around for a while, even leading briefly midway through the first half. However, a 12-1 SSU run to end the first half set the tone for the rest of the game. The Seawolves quickly pushed the lead to 20 in the second half and the Otters would never really threaten.
Armacost had 14 points on 5-of-11 shooting, including three three-pointers.
Mallorie Cargill also had three treys on her way to a career-high 11 points.
Heidi Mertle and
Genny Anderson cleaned up on the glass, posting 11 rebounds each.
Andrea Hanshew had eight points to lead Cal State Monterey Bay.
SSU will conclude their current four-game homestand on Saturday night when they host rival San Francisco State.
