ROHNERT PARK, Calif- J.T. Tipton notched his fifth double-double of the season as Sonoma State used a comeback effort to defeat San Francisco State 54-43 on Saturday night at Seawolf Gym. It was the fourth straight win for the Seawolves as they improve to 5-7, 4-4 CCAA. The Gators, despite a solid defensive effort, fall to 5-7, 1-6 CCAA.
The Gators controlled the tempo in the first half, holding SSU to just 21 points on 8-of-22 shooting. It even took Sonoma State a little time in the second half, but once they did, they surged past the Gators. Trailing 36-27 with 11 minutes remaining, the Seawolves used a 27-7 run the rest of the way to earn the victory.
Tipton had 16 points and 11 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the season. He shot 5-of-9 from the field and hit SSU's first two three-pointers of the night. Andrew Kochevar had ten points and freshman Kyle Shandera turned in his finest performance of the year with six points and six rebounds.
Derek Fletcher was the lone Gator in double figures, finishing with ten points. He also grabbed eight rebounds, tying him for game-high honors with Jamil Muchell.
The Seawolves will hit the road next weekend to take on Cal State Bakersfield and Cal State L.A.
